Introduction

Kwon Bo-ah, known professionally as BoA, is a South Korean singer, songwriter, record producer and actress. BoA has been recognized as one of the most successful and influential Korean entertainers throughout her career, and is therefore commonly credited as the “Queen of K-pop.”

Since her debut in August of 2000, BoA has released many albums in a variety of languages including Korean, Japanese, English, and Mandarin. These releases have contributed to her commercial success throughout Asia. With the release of her debut Japanese studio album, ‘Listen to My Heart’, BoA became the first Korean pop star to break through in Japan following the fall of barriers that had restricted the import and export of entertainment between the countries since the end of World War II.

One January 3, 2022, she made her debut as a member of the unit GOT the beat from the project girl group Girls On Top.

BoA’s exclusive contract with SM Entertainment ended on December 31, 2025 according to the singer. SM did not make a statement regarding her possible departure from the agency or contract renewal, until January 12, 2026, when SM Entertainment announced BoA’s departure from the agency after deciding not to renew her contract.
